Appalachian Trail Corridor Monitoring Workshop

Join the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for our Intro to Corridor Monitoring Workshop. Corridor monitors help protect the land the Appalachian Trail passes through.

This workshop will help you gain or improve the skills necessary to become a Corridor Monitor for the A.T. We will focus on field based training on (1) how to locate the A.T. Corridor boundary, which consists of surveyed property lines with monuments at each corner and marked trees on or near the boundary line; (2) use maps and portable technology to assist in locating the monuments; (3) look for incursions into the Corridor (such as dumping, timber theft, illegal access, etc.); (4) how to perform boundary maintenance, such as freshening the paint on the boundary trees, and (5) document and report observations back to the Trail Conference, and our partner land managers.
