Video presentation by Chris Reyling and Marty Costello: Long Distance Trails Crew. 10:00 am: Keynote Eugene Boesch: From Shell Middens, Villages Ritual Sites, to Castles: 11,000 Years of Pre-Contact Period Native American Occupations on Croton Point. This presentation examines Native American cultures and adaptations at Croton Point from the area's earliest occupation by humans, at least 11,000 years ago, to the period of initial European exploration. Evidence for many past Native American cultures have left their diverse marks on the landscape.  This talk will address some of the site types present on the Point and their meaning for archaeologists and ethnohistorians.  10:30 am: MeetingAnnual Awards will be presented to our most distinguished volunteers. Delegates will vote on nominations for the board and delegates-at-large. 11:30 am: Hikes and Workshops Hikes CLOSED Sylvan Glen Ramble with Jane and Walter Daniels. 4 Miles (Moderate because of elevation gains and losses)  The Mohegan Quarries supplied a honey colored granite to build the abutments of the George Washington and Whitestone bridges as well as the Cathedral of St John the Divine.  Join Jane and Walt on this interpretive hike to visit the quarry sites in Sylvan Glen Park Preserve, a town park in Mohegan Lake.  Other points of interest include the 18' circumference Quarry Oak, steps that the Jolly Rovers Built and, if time allows, a lime kiln. All Things Croton with Eileen West.  7-8 Miles (Terrain is easy to moderate)  Starting at the Croton Gorge Park, hiking near the Croton Dam and walk along the Croton River, take the Old Croton Aqueduct past the GE property, walk north on the Croton-Ossining bike path and then hike into Croton Point Park along the shore and back to Sensaqua Lodge. Teatown Sampler with Mary Dodds.  5 Miles (Easy to moderate)  Hike from Teatown through Hidden Valley and overlook some of the lakeside and the waterfall.  Hike will be geared to hikers signed up as to how long, how far, and their interest and familiarity with Teatown. Workshops Secrets of Modern Day Mapmaking with Jeremy Apgar. Back by popular demand! Learn how digital and paper maps are (and were) made. Chi Walking (pronounced Chee) with Glenn Trimboli. Enjoy efficient and injury free walking based on movement principles of T'ai Chi, but you don't need to know T'ai Chi to learn how using your core can transform your walking/running.  Check out Glenn's website. Walking Art, Walking Coyote with Artist Dillon deGive. Get a brief overview of the intersection of walking and art. Dillon will speak about his project “laH”, an annual hike which traces the path of Hal, the 2006 Central Park coyote from the city to the wild.  Check out Dillon's website. All hikes will leave from Croton Point Park and shuttles will be coordinated with hike leaders onsite at a designated meeting point.
