The canal towpath closely parallels the Delaware River and passes many historic homes. Six bridges over the Delaware River make loop hikes possible along canals on the New Jersey and Pennsylvania sides.

Delaware Canal State Park

The 60-mile-long Delaware Canal towpath extends from Easton to Bristol, Pennsylvania, and has been designated a National Recreation Trail.  Once trod by mule teams pulling cargo boats along the canal, the towpath today is used by hikers, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and birders.
